Condition and potency analysis  of poor family  in rural area multiethnic for finding coping mechanism model of poverty. (Study in Lempuing district OKI province of South Sumatera)

This research have a purpose to understanding characteristic of poor family, root of poverty, potency of poor family, social capital, and to finding coping mechanism model of poverty in rural area multiethnic. Qualitative method and Design used to solve research question. Data collected by interview to informant (in depth  interview), focus group discussion (FGD) by using  guide interview to 20 informant from poor family. There are multi ethnic from Komering, Java, Bali and Batak. Focus group discussion to find information from leader society  or leader traditional from Hindu, Islam, Kristen, catholic religion. 
The result of this research show that the root of poverty are internal factors and external factors (cultural dan structural). Internal factors are:  lazy to work, fatalistic, high consumption, and low of knowledge. External factors are  debt circle, low of formal and non formal job, too many children, and have no asset production.
Potency of poor family among human potential, social potential, politic potential,  physical potential, and natural potential. Poor family have formal school although just basic, have children, have a personality. Political potency manifested in politic organization. Potency of physical and financial are infrastructure support and institutinal monetary (PNPM and others). Social potency like religion group, ethnic group, collective conscience and peasant group.  Natural potential of poor family just a little. Social capital in community such as; yasinan, gotong royong, ronda malam and peasant group.  Coping mechanism model of poverty in Lempuing, depend on stressing optimal potency of poor family by strength internal factors and external factors.  The role of government, local leader, religion leader, are important to poor family empowerment.
